Our Custom Engraving Process
Our custom engraving process begins with a consultation. This can be via email, over the phone or in-store. We will chat to you about the kind of design you would like on your signet and also the style of engraving. Take a look below to see the engraving styles we offer.
-
Simple Lines
This style of laser engraving leaves a beautiful subtlety to the design. Your artwork is rendered as a line drawing and engraved into the ring. This works well for highly detailed designs.
-
2D Engraving
With our 2D laser engraving, the design itself is engraved into the ring leaving the background polished.
-
3D Engraving
Our 3D design is essentially the opposite of 2D and creates a stunning effect. The ‘background’ of the design is engraved away leaving the design itself 3D and polished.
Oxidisation
We use a process called oxidisation to put the finishing touch on our signet rings and really make your design pop. Oxidisation is essentially a sped up version of the natural tarnishing process. The engraved surface is intentionally darkened by introducing it to a chemical process. A layer of silver sulfide forms on the exterior of the metal giving it a blackened look.
As oxidisation is a natural process the outcome can vary depending on the metal and engraving.
-
Shoulder Engraving
Shoulder engraving is perfect to add initials or small symbols to one or both sides of the signet. Adding that little extra bit of personalisation to your ring.
-
Inside Engraving
The inside of the ring is a great spot to put a short message or initials. Depending on the size of your signet you could add up to one to two lines of text.
