What metal should you choose for your custom signet ring?

At Custom Signet Rings by Benjamin Black, we only work with precious metals - sterling silver, gold, and platinum. But what are the differences between each type - and how do you know what the best choice is for you?

1. Sterling silver. Sterling silver contains 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. If budget is a consideration, sterling silver is the most cost-effective of all the precious metals.

2. Yellow gold. Custom signet rings by Benjamin Black can be made with 9 carat, 14 carat or 18 carat yellow gold.

9 carat yellow gold is 37.5% pure gold and 62.5% metal alloys. 14 carat yellow gold is 58.5% pure gold. And 18 carat yellow gold has 75% purity.

3. White gold is an alloy of gold and palladium. Because gold is yellow in colour, it needs to be mixed with another metal in order to achieve the white aesthetic. Palladium is a white metal – it is what gives white gold its colour.

4. Platinum is the most premium white metal because it is the hardest and heaviest. It is also incredibly durable and perfect for everyday wear.
